KU BASKETBALL COACH ROY WILLIAMS ON HIS FOUR SENIORS, WHO CONCLUDED THEIR HOME CAREERS AGAINST OKLAHOMA STATE ON MONDAY NIGHT:

By Staff     Feb 23, 1999

Ryan Robertson: “What is mind boggling to me is only six players have played in more games at Kansas than Ryan has played in.”

Robertson, who has played in 136 games will likely finish his career second behind Danny Manning in games played. Kevin Pritchard is second on the all-time list at 139 games. Manning played in 147.

“The number of wins he’s been part of are phenomenal. I think of the various roles he’s tried to play here. The best thing that comes to mind … what a great kid. He is a youngster I will truly miss. He’s meant a lot to me personally. He is a very sincere, serious youngster. He cares deeply about our program, our coaching staff, his teammates. I feel very lucky to have been his coach.”

T.J. Pugh: “The first thing I think of is how good he’s been defensively, how tough he is and how focused he’s been to block out all the aches and pains, the injuries.

“I remember his toughness and ability to focus on things to help the team. He could have been a more prominent offensive player somewhere else, but decided to come here because he wanted to win games and be part of a great winning tradition.

Jelani Janisse: “I don’t know if we ever saw the true Jelani because of his ankle injury (last preseason). It made it tougher on him to be a point guard. It may have contributed to some of the turnover problems he’s had.

“Jelani had never played point guard until his sophomore year at junior college. The injury didn’t help his devlopment at that position. The surgery set him back. He’s been a pleasant youngster to be around.”

Chris Martin: “Chris loves the program. He talks about growing up in Lawrence and dreaming about playing in the fieldhouse and wanting to be part of the program. He came to a lot of games as a kid. He is a great youngster and I’m glad he’s been a part of this program.”
