Texas A&M assistant coach Lew Hill played for Wichita State in the 1980s and was an All-Missouri Valley Conference selection his senior year. Hill played against KU one time. He led the Shockers with 10 points in an 81-56 loss Dec. 28, 1985.
Hill and first-year KU assistant Joe Dooley were members of the East Carolina coaching staff from 1994-98. During the 1994-95, season both were assistants, then Dooley became the head coach in 1996.
Texas A&M’s Keith Bean (Fontana), Bradley Jackson (Inglewood), Antoine Wright (San Bernardino) and Kevin Turner (Diamond Bar), along with KU’s Moulaye Niang (El Cajon) and Omar Wilkes (Los Angeles), hail from California.
KU routed A&M, 85-45, Feb. 26, 2003 in Allen Fieldhouse. Kirk Hinrich scored 23 points, while Nick Collison added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Keith Langford poured in 18 points off 8-of-14 shooting. Aaron Miles had 10 points and a game-high 10 assists. Bryant Nash grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. Texas A&M was led by Leandro Garcia-Morales, who scored nine points on 3-of-8 shooting.
