It may have been the bye week for the Kansas football program, but that didn’t stop Lance Leipold’s Jayhawks from picking up a big victory.

This one came on the recruiting trail.

Just before 6 p.m. on Sunday evening, former five-star offensive lineman Logan Brown hit social media to announce his commitment to Kansas.

A former five-star offensive tackle out of East Kentwood, Michigan, Brown has been an important part of the Wisconsin offensive line during the past two seasons, playing in all 13 games during the 2021 season and playing just over 200 snaps this season before electing to enter the transfer portal. That included starting two games at right tackle and another at left tackle for the Badgers this season.

According to reports, Brown was dismissed from the Wisconsin team by interim head coach Jim Leonhard after Paul Chryst was fired, and that led to him looking for a new place to play.

“The reality of what happened is there was an internal incident here within the program and Logan Brown was dismissed from the program,” Leonhard told the Associated Press on Oct. 13. “It was not a choice. He was dismissed from our program.”

As soon as Brown hit the portal, the KU coaching staff and several other schools reached out to him quickly.

JayhawkSlant.com reported that Leipold, offensive line coach Scott Fuchs and KU general manager Rob Ianello all made it clear to Brown that the Jayhawks were interested.

After a recent visit and some extra attention from the KU staff during the bye week, the 6-foot-6, 313-pound lineman had all he needed to pick Kansas.

Brown is expected to arrive in Lawrence in January with two years of eligibility remaining. He will be allowed to play immediately and likely will be in the mix for a big role on the Jayhawks O-Line during the 2023 season.

Brown can play either tackle spot and also can work at offensive guard.

During his senior season of high school football, Brown was the top-rated prospect in the state of Michigan and the No. 6 overall ranked offensive tackle in the nation per Rivals.com.

As it stands today, KU’s offensive line, which has been a big reason for the Jayhawks’ 5-3 start to the season, features sixth-year senior Earl Bostick Jr., redshirt senior Dominick Puni, redshirt junior Mike Novitsky and redshirt sophomores Michael Ford Jr. and Bryce Cabledue as the starters.

Bostick is the only one in that group who is certain to be gone next season, and Kansas also added Louisville transfer Kobe Baynes to the mix before the start of this season. Baynes is a redshirt sophomore who also is capable of playing tackle or guard.
