KU volleyball falls in 5 sets to visiting Oklahoma

After a two-week break in the schedule, the Kansas volleyball team returned to action with a five-set loss to Oklahoma on Friday night at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.

The Jayhawks won the opening set, 25-20, and took a 2-1 lead after winning the third set, 25-19. But the Sooners responded by winning the next two sets — 25-23 and 18-16 — to win the match.

The loss — KU’s sixth straight setback — dropped the Jayhawks to 11-9 on the season and 3-6 in Big 12 Conference play.

KU and Oklahoma (10-10, 4-5) will conclude their season series at 4 p.m. Saturday at Horejsi.

Bechard has his team primed to wil the race to the bottom of the conference by season”s end. Without his departed top assistant coach he cannot win. Will the KUAD allow him to stay as he drives the program into the ground? Only time will tell.

Wow. The State of Oklahoma is not a volleyball state. Fall softball dominates high schools and few schools even play vb. Osu doesn’t even field a team! Bechard has built nothing since the FF and it is time to ride off into sunset!

Here we go again. We definitely have a very talented group of volleyballers, who just as in the past are going to underachieve. At some point one has to ask where the problem lies, and unfortunately it comes back to the head coach. Rule one of coaching: get the most out of the talent you have.

Ou is just as young as we are. Youth is no l onger an excuse.

A couple points is so close and yet at the end of the day it’s just one (W or L). Coach Bechard has been at KU a long time, and probably developed a lot of positive relationships that are tough to break in a non revenue sport.

This is not a win or a loss, it is a pattern of underachievement.
At some point we all have to be accountable.
