Kansas soccer forward Brie Severns added another honor to a busy week of accolades and milestone victories on Wednesday.
The sophomore from Lee’s Summit, Mo., who scored the game-winning goal against both No. 9 West Virginia and No. 23 Baylor last week, was named The United Soccer Coaches’ national player of the week for Division I on Wednesday.
Severns is the second player in Kansas history to receive the honor. Katie McClure won the award in August of 2019.
The Blue Springs South graduate now leads the team with five goals and 14 points so far this season. In addition to her two game-winners, Severns assisted on another goal against the Mountaineers and drew a foul in the box that led to a penalty-kick goal against Baylor.
The KU victories were their first in conference play this season and it marked the first time in KU soccer history that the Jayhawks had defeated two ranked teams in the same week.
According to Kansas Athletics, United Soccer Coaches Players of the Week honors are a weekly recognition of the on-field accomplishments of players competing at the intercollegiate level. United Soccer Coaches names one male and one female recipient at all three NCAA and Junior College divisions.
Severns and the Jayhawks will look to move their current winning streak to three in a row at 7 p.m. Thursday at Oklahoma.
