Kansas volleyball drops opener at West Virginia

The Kansas volleyball team fell in three sets at West Virginia on Thursday night, losing 25-18, 30-28 and 25-15 in the series opener in Morgantown, W.V.

The Jayhawks efficiency numbers were off from the start. KU recorded just six kills to go along with eight attack errors in the first set and surrendered five of the match's first six points.

In the third set, KU recorded seven kills and seven attack errors, to finish with a season-low .018 hitting percentage for the match.

The second set was much tighter, with 20 ties and nine lead changes. Neither team led by more than 3 points at any point in the second set, before WVU (15-7 overall, 5-6 Big 12) took advantage of a late serving error by Kansas (12-10, 4-7) to help close out the set.

Freshman outside hitter Caroline Bien led the Jayhawks with eight kills and seven digs while senior Rachel Langs added six kills. Senior Jenny Mosser and freshman setter Camryn Turner tied for team-high honors with nine digs apiece and Turner also dished out a team-best 20 assists.

Kansas and West Virginia will conclude their series at 2 p.m. Friday. The match will be broadcast on ESPNU.
