Kansas sophomore Samantha Van Hoecke secured her first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships earlier this week by placing sixth in the pole vault at the west preliminary.
A former high school standout at Paola High, Van Hoecke set a new personal record on Thursday in College Station, Texas, clearing 14 feet (4.27 meters) in the event.
Van Hoecke cleared each of her first three heights at the prelim without a miss. Her new personal mark of 14 feet makes her the No. 6 performer in the event in KU outdoor history.
The NCAA Outdoor Championships are set for June 9-12, in Eugene, Ore.
