With their respective performances at the west preliminary, Kansas track’s Gleb Dudarev, Zach Bradford and Hussain Al-Hizam each secured an invite to the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Dudarev, a senior from Belarus, got KU’s first day at the four-day event in College Station, Texas, started on Wednesday with the best hammer throw at the regional, taking first place with a mark of 234 feet, 8 inches (71.53 meters).
Bradford, a sophomore from Bloomington, Ill., and Al-Hizam, a senior from Saudi Arabia, both qualified for the NCAA Championships in the pole vault. Each cleared 17 feet, 10.5 inches to secure a spot, and Bradford placed second at the prelim, while Al-Hizam finished eighth in the event.
When the two compete at the upcoming championships in Eugene, Ore., Bradford will enter with the nation’s top mark in the pole vault this season (19 feet, 0.75 inches), and Al-Hizam will have the No. 4 mark in the country (18 feet, 8.25 inches).
