KU senior thrower Gleb Dudarev wins another Big 12 title with record toss

By Staff Report     May 14, 2021

Kansas senior thrower Gleb Dudarev took down a meet and facility record while joining an exclusive group on Friday during the Big 12 Outdoor Championship at R.V. Christian Track in Manhattan.

Dudarev’s impressive accolades highlighted day one of the three-day event for the Jayhawks. Dudarev won the men’s hammer throw competition with a launch of 74.61m (244-9 ft.), a feat he accomplished on the third attempt of his six throws. Iowa State senior Vlad Pavlenko finished as runner-up in the event with a toss of 66.96.

The throw was not only good enough for a Big 12 title, but it also set both a Big 12 meet and facility record. Both marks were actually previously held by Oklahoma State’s Nick Miller, who recorded a throw of 70.57 to set both such records.

It marks the fourth time in as many seasons that Dudarev has won a Big 12 outdoor title in hammer throw after doing so in 2016, 2017 and 2019. Dudarev and Miller are the only two hammer throwers to win four outdoor titles in Big 12 history.

This weekend’s Big 12 Outdoor Championship is the first in over two years, with the last being held in Norman, Oklahoma on May 10-12, 2019. The Kansas men entered the event ranked No. 15 in the country and third amongst Big 12 foes according to the Week 7 USTFCCCA ratings index.
