Defensive end Marcus Harris, a would-be starting redshirt sophomore for the Jayhawks, has entered his name into the transfer portal, per reports from 247 Sports and Rivals.

Listed most recently on KU’s roster at 6-foot-2 and 280 pounds, Harris became the second D-lineman to leave the Jayhawks in the wake of the program’s transition to a new head coach.

Former KU defensive tackle Da’Jon Terry already announced his pending transfer to Tennessee. Harris and Terry were roommates and close friends, as well as a D-line tandem that many within the program expected to make an impact for years to come.

Harris and Terry came to KU in 2019, as members of former head coach Les Miles’ first recruiting class. They both redshirted their first year on campus and then both emerged as starters in 2020.

At D-end, Harris started five games this past fall, finishing with 27 total tackles, a team-high 7.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery while appearing in eight games.

The move to the portal comes after Harris completed all of spring football with the Jayhawks, capped by a spring game in which the powerful rusher made 2.5 tackles and one tackle for loss.

Recruited by former KU defensive coordinator DJ Eliot, Harris was a two-star prospect out of Montgomery, Ala., in the Class of 2019.

Per Rivals, he only had two Power Five offers out of high school — from KU and Washington State. However, Harris, like Terry, could be eyeing a move to the SEC.
