The Kansas baseball team experienced a wide range of outcomes during a series loss to Oklahoma State this past weekend at Hoglund Ballpark.
Roughly 24 hours after being no-hit by the Cowboys in a 19-0 loss in the second game, the Jayhawks recorded a 8-7 victory in walk-off fashion during Sunday’s finale. It all came after OSU earned a 13-4 win in the series opener on Friday.
Oklahoma State moved to 27-15-1 on the year, including 10-11 in Big 12 play. Kansas, meanwhile, is now 26-23 overall with a 5-13 clip in league action.
In the second game, OSU freshman Justin Campbell threw the 11th no-hitter in school history — and just the third in a nine-inning game — by striking out 11 batters in a 19-0 shellacking. He issued one walk to Brett Vosik late in the game to break up the perfect game.
Campbell joins Bob Richardson (1968 vs. Houston) and Jim Wixson (1960 vs. North Carolina in the College World Series) to toss individual nine-inning no-hitters for the Cowboys. He also recorded the 19th no-hitter in Big 12 history and 12th by an individual.
The Jayhawks bounced back with a clutch win on Sunday to avoid being swept. Vosik was awarded a free pass via a walk with the bases loaded in the ninth, which scored Dylan Ditzenberger for the game-winning run.
Ditzenberger finished the day 3-for-5 with two RBIs and his ninth-inning triple. Vosik tallied two RBIs. On Friday, Anthony Tulimero delivered a two-run doubles in the eighth to lead KU’s offense on the day.
Kansas will host Kansas State for a three-game set this weekend. The series opener is slated for 6 p.m. Friday.
