Kansas tennis drops 4-3 decision to TCU

The Kansas women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to TCU on Friday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Jayhawks fell to 5-4 on the year. The Horned Frogs, meanwhile, improved to 7-5 this season.

Kansas fell behind from the jump, with TCU claiming doubles point to begin the match. KU’s tandem of Sonia Smagina and Vasiliki Karvouni fell on court one. Carmen Roxana Manu and Tiffany Lagarde then dropped their match to TCU’s duo on court three.

In singles competition, the Jayhawks started off with a victory on court six after Julia Deming made quick work of her opponent in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) to even the score. Smagina followed suit with a win (6-3, 6-1) on court one to give Kansas a 2-1 advantage.

TCU picked up two more victories to reclaim the lead, and KU’s only other win in the match came when Manu won in three sets (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) on court three. Lagarde suffered a three-set defeat on court five in what ultimately decided the outcome of the match.

Kansas will face Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas on Sunday. The match is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
