It took 12 innings, but the Kansas baseball team earned a 7-5 win over Saint Louis in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Billiken Sports Center.

With the win on Sunday, KU notched the series victory after splitting the first two games of the weekend, Kansas recorded a 5-1 win in Game 2 on Saturday and suffered a 8-1 loss in the opener on Friday. The Jayhawks are now 5-5 on the year.

In the top of the 12th, sophomore Casey Burnham walked and advanced to second on a groundout before stealing third base on his own. Junior Nolan Metcalf then drew a walk, while Burnham eventually scored on a wild pitch. Sophomore Jack Wagner then scored Metcalfe on a single to right, giving KU a 7-5 lead.

Freshman Maui Ahuna and sophomore Dylan Ditzenberger both recorded multi-hit games. Ahuna finished 2-for-5 at the plate, while Ditzenberger also finished 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored.

The Jayhawks leaned on a stellar pitching performance from starter Cole Larsen in the second game of the series. Larsen tossed seven innings on one-run ball, striking out eight batters in the process. The junior righty from Jamestown, Kansas improved to 1-1 on the year.

Kansas only managed one hit in the opener on Friday, which came via freshman Anthony Tulimero. KU’s lone run of the day took place when junior Tom Lichty drove in Metcalf with a one-out sacrifice fly.

Kansas will host Omaha for a four-game set this weekend. The opener is slated to begin at 3 p.m. Friday.
