It might not have been as pretty as the other night, but the Kansas men’s basketball team completed the sweep of Iowa State with a 64-50 win Saturday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum.
The Jayhawks practically shot the lights out in their 97-64 win over the Cyclones on Thursday in Allen Fieldhouse. Two days later, though, baskets were hard to come by for a Kansas team that never led during the entire first half.
Yet KU and ISU were tied at 24-24 at halftime, mostly because of sloppy play by both teams. Kansas couldn’t seem to put the ball through the bottom of the net, but Iowa State really struggled taking care of the rock all day.
It allowed the Jayhawks to hang around when they otherwise shouldn’t have. They scored six quick early points to begin the second half, which allowed them to play in front for the first time all game. Kansas then stretched its lead out to 10 points with about eight minutes left to play.
Iowa State has now lost its first 11 games of Big 12 play, falling to 2-14 overall.
Kansas, meanwhile, won all three of this week’s games since falling out of the AP Top 25. The Jayhawks are now 15-7 on the year, including a 9-5 clip against Big 12 opponents, after winning a pair of contests against the Cyclones during a three-day stretch.
Kansas will travel to Kansas State at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
