The Kansas women’s soccer team was shutout for the second game in a row to open the season, falling to Wisconsin 1-0 on Sunday at Rock Chalk Park.

The loss, which dropped the Jayhawks to 0-1-1, came just a few days after KU and Drake played to a 0-0 tie in the season opener.

After a scoreless tie in the first half, Wisconsin opened the second half out-shooting KU 5-0 through the first 15 minutes of the period. The Badgers’ scored the game’s lone goal when Emma Jaskaniec scored from the left side of the neet in the 64th minute.

The Jayhawks were out-shot 13-5 for the match despite receiving five corner kick opportunities in the second half alone.

“They are a good team and we knew it was going to be a battle,” KU coach Mark Francis said after the loss. “We had some opportunities in the second half. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day. I thought we played well and it could have gone either way. I was really proud of our grit. We’re going to win more games than we will lose if we continue with that kind of mentality.”

Next up, KU will play host to No. 21 Saint Louis at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Rock Chalk Park. The match will be televised on Big 12 NOW on ESPN+ and the Jayhawks will conclude their homestand by welcoming Iowa to town on Sunday.
