Despite outshooting visiting Drake 19-3, including an edge of 10-2 in shots on goal, the Kansas women’s soccer team opened the 2021 season with a 0-0 tie.
The Jayhawks (0-0-1) and Bulldogs (0-0-1) remained scoreless even after two extra periods on Thursday night at Rock Chalk Park.
Drake goalkeeper Kelsie Stone played a big role in setting the final score.
Stone recorded 10 saves total, including a couple in extra time and two more on shots by KU freshman Raena Childers in the final 10 minutes of regulation.
KU goalkeeper Sarah Peters saved the only two shots on goal she faced in Thursday’s opener in picking up the 27th shutout of her Kansas career.
The Jayhawks will return to action at 1 p.m. Sunday against Wisconsin at Rock Chalk Park.
