After losing the first two games of the series, the Kansas baseball team salvaged the weekend with a 2-1 win over TCU in the finale on Sunday at Lupton Stadium.
It came after the Jayhawks suffered a 15-1 loss to the Horned Frogs in Friday’s series opener and a 10-3 defeat in Game 2 on Saturday. Kansas is now 22-18 on the year, while posting a 4-11 clip during Big 12 action.
No. 8 TCU moved to 29-10 overall, which includes a 12-3 record against conference opponents.
A strong showing from KU’s pitching staff and timely hits on offense was the key in Sunday’s narrow victory.
Eli Davis started on the mound for Kansas, earning the victory to improve to 4-4 this season. He pitched five innings, while allowing only one run and striking out a career-high 10 batters.
Daniel Hegarty replaced Davis in the sixth inning, and pitched three scoreless innings of relief to set up Jonah Ulane to close out the game. Ulane pitched a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts and shut down the Horned Frogs offense for his sixth save of the season.
Skyler Messinger and James Cosentino led KU on offense. Messinger recorded his second-straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Cosentino went 2-for-4 and drove in the go-ahead run.
Kansas will host Sacramento State for a two-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday.
