By Staff Report     Apr 25, 2021

The Kansas softball team gave up a total of 28 runs while being swept by No. 9 Texas on the road this past weekend.

Sunday’s series finale was the closest contest of the weekend, in which a late rally by Kansas fell short in a 10-8 defeat. KU suffered a 8-1 loss in the opener, and was handed a 10-1 defeat in the second game.

After losing all three games, the Jayhawks are now 22-20 on the year and 2-10 in the Big 12. Texas improved to 35-6 overall, including a 9-3 clip against league opponents.

During the finale, Kansas scored three runs in the second and tied the game with five runs in the fifth. The Longhorns, however, answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to complete the sweep.

Macy Omli led KU on Sunday by going 2-for-4 from the plate and brought in a career-high four RBIs. The Jayhawks recorded a total of eight hits across the first two games of the series.

Kansas will travel to Baylor for a three-game set next weekend. The series opener is slated for 6:30 p.m. Friday.
