The Kansas women’s tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 1 seeded Texas on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament. It came after KU earned a 4-3 win over Kansas State in the opening round to snap a six-game losing skid.
Kansas ended the year with a 8-13 overall record, while No. 2 Texas improved to 23-1 with its latest win.
The Longhorns got things started by capturing the doubles point. Lulu Sun and Kylie Collins of Texas earned a 6-2 win over Sonia Smagina and Vasiliki Karvouni on court one. Anna Turati and Fernanda Labrana followed suit with a 6-2 victory over Malkia Ngounoue and Julia Deming on court two.
Despite a valiant effort in singles play, the Jayhawks were unable to get on the scoreboard. Carmen Roxana Manu lost on court three, Karvouni fell on court four and Deming was defeated on court six.
