College Station, Texas, is becoming a popular recruiting spot for the Kansas football program. The Jayhawks have added their second commitment for the Class of 2022 from the city where offensive line coach Lee Grimes used to play and work.

Houston Thomas, a tight end and high school teammate of KU recruit Cory Hendrix, announced Sunday afternoon his decision to join Hendrix and commit to the Jayhawks.

Recruited by tight ends coach Josh Eargle, as well as new KU O-line coach Grimes, who played at Texas A & M and was on staff with the Aggies as recently as 2019, Thomas is currently a junior at College Station High.

A 6-foot-5, 220-pound prospect, Thomas also has a scholarship offer from New Mexico. Rivals hasn’t assigned him a star rating at this juncture.

Thomas told Jon Kirby of Jayhawk Slant that he expects playing at the college level with Hendrix, a three-star offensive lineman recruited by Grimes, will be “awesome,” because the two prep teammates are close.

“Every weekend, me and him were always hanging out. So that will be cool to have a friend like that up there with me,” Thomas said, “and it would just be an awesome experience and I just can’t wait for it.”

So far, four of the six prospects in KU’s 2022 recruiting class are from the state of Texas.

None of the recruits will be able to make their nonbinding verbal commitments to KU official until the December early signing period, a little more than eight months from now.
