The Kansas tennis team dropped a second straight match, this time losing to its rival Kansas State on the road Saturday afternoon. The Jayhawks suffered a 4-3 loss to the Wildcats in Manhattan.
Kansas actually claimed doubles point to begin the match. Sonia Smagina and Vasiliki Karvouni won their respective match on court one, while Malkia Ngounoue and Julia Deming earned a victory on court two.
The Wildcats responded by winning four matches during singles action. KU’s only two victories during singles play came via Carmen Roxana Manu (court three) and Karvouni (court four) on the day. Ngounoue, who was ranked No. 102 overall as a singles player, lost her match on court two to an unranked player.
Kansas is now below .500 on the year, falling to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 action. Kansas State improved to 7-7 after Saturday’s showing.
KU will host Texas at 5 p.m. Friday before welcoming Baylor to Lawrence at 12 p.m. Sunday.
