The University of Kansas soccer team lost consecutive matches for the first time this season, with a 2-1 defeat Friday night at No. 6 West Virginia.
The WVU defense kept the No. 11 Jayhawks from putting a shot on goal until the 75th minute, and that’s when junior Rylan Childers secured a ricochet off a corner kick to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Mountaineers (7-1-0) scored both of their goals in the first 15-plus minutes, with Stefany Ferrer-vanGinkel putting away both.
KU freshman Shira Elinav tried to tie the match with a shot on goal in the 85th minute but was denied by keeper Kayza Massey.
The Jayhawks (4-3-0) return home for their next match, Nov. 6 versus Iowa State. KU is 2-1 at Rock Chalk Park this fall.
