Marcus Garrett’s list of preseason honors grew by one on Monday, with the Bob Cousy Award naming the Kansas senior to their preseason watch list.
Garrett, who last week was named to the preseason all-Big 12 team, is the reigning Naismith Defensive Player of the Year and the Jayhawks’ top returner from last season’s 28-3 team.
As a junior in 2019-20, the versatile guard from Dallas led the Big 12 in assists (4.6) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.7). He also ranked among the league leaders in steals and added 9.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game to his final line.
Garrett is one of four Big 12 players listed on the Cousy watch list, joining Baylor’s Jared Butler, Oklahoma State freshman Cade Cunningham and Texas veteran Matt Coleman III.
College basketball fans are encouraged to participate in the fan voting portion of the award in each of the three rounds. In late January, the 20-man watch list will be narrowed to 10. And in late February, that group will be pared down to five finalists, with the winner being presented with the award on April 9, 2021.
