Gary Woodland finishes tied for 62nd at RBC Heritage

Former Kansas golf standout Gary Woodland never quite got going this week at the RBC Heritage golf tournament in Hilton Head, S.C., where he shot 6-under for the tournament to finish tied for 62nd.

Woodland made the cut on Friday by shooting 5-under during the first two rounds.

But he shot even par on Saturday and 1-under on Sunday and never worked his way into contention at an event won by Webb Simpson, who shot 22-Under over four days.

Woodland carded a quadruple bogey on the par-3 14th hole during Saturday’s back nine and atoned for that by parring the same hole on Sunday. However, he followed that up with a double bogey at the par-5 15th hole, which offset the four birdies that cane before it during his final round.

Woodland birdied the 16th hole and parted in to shoot 36 on the back nine and 70 for the day.

He shot 68, 69, 71 and 70 over the four days of the PGA Tour’s second event back since the COVID-19 pandemic derailed the sport’s spring schedule.

The amended Tour schedule resumes Thursday in Cromwell, Conn., at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.
