The Kansas softball team did not score a single run in two games against a pair of ranked opponents on Friday during the second day of the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational at Eddie C. Moore Complex.
Kansas suffered an 11-0 loss to No. 15 Georgia and a 10-0 defeat to No. 18 South Carolina, falling to 0-3 in the event. The Jayhawks are now 1-7 on the year, which includes six losses to ranked opponents.
Freshman Tatum Goff finished with a career-high six strikeouts in 5.0 innings against the Gamecocks. In her first start of the season, sophomore Cheyenne Hornbuckle went 1-for-3 against South Carolina. She now sits with a team-best .429 batting average.
Kansas will conclude the invitational Saturday, with games against No. 21 Northwestern, at 9:30 a.m., and No. 20 James Madison, at 12:30 p.m.
