Kansas softball suffers 8-0 loss to No. 19 Missouri

By Staff Report     Feb 13, 2020

It was a familiar result for the Kansas softball team in the first game of the second weekend.

The Jayhawks suffered an 8-0 loss to No. 19 Missouri to begin the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational on Thursday in the Eddie C. Moore Complex. Kansas is now 1-5 to start the season, which includes four losses to ranked opponents. Missouri improved to 6-0 on the year, scoring all eight runs in the bottom of the second.

KU opened up the game strong by getting runners into scoring position in each of the first two innings, but the Jayhawks were unable to capitalize on the early momentum. Missouri responded with a big second inning to remove any doubt about the outcome.

Shortstop Sydnee Ramsey and left fielder Tarin Travieso recorded KU’s only two hits in the game. The Tigers tagged Kansas starter Hailey Reed with seven earned runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Kansas will play its second and third games of the invitational Friday against No. 15 Georgia, at 11 a.m., and No. 18 South Carolina, at 5 p.m.
