Kansas women’s tennis continued to play well at ITA Central Regional Championships on Saturday.
In doubles action, Maria Toran Ribes and Malkia Ngounoue paired up and went 1-1, first downing a duo from Nebraska, 8-4, but later fell to their opponents from Arkansas by the score of 8-6. Sofia Smagina and Carmen Roxana Manu defeated Iowa, 8-3. In their second match, they lost to Oklahoma, 8-5. Julia Deming and Luniuska Delgado got the best of Oklahoma after defeating the duo 8-7 (2). The pair dropped its round of 16 match to Arkansas by the score of 8-2.
The Jayhawks finished the day with two advancing to the singles round of 16, which will be held Sunday afternoon. Vasiliki Karvouni downed Kansas State with a 6-1, 6-2 result. Smagina followed suit defeating Oklahoma State in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
The round of 16 and quarterfinals for singles begins after doubles quarterfinals, which starts at 9 a.m. Sunday.
