Kansas softball drops final 2 games against Iowa State

By Staff Report     May 4, 2019

On the final day of competition against Iowa State, the Kansas softball dropped both games of a doubleheader. Kansas suffered an 1-0 loss and dropped a 4-2 decision at the Cyclones Sports Complex.

The Jayhawks secured their spot in the 2019 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship after Baylor’s loss at No. 10 Texas on Saturday.

Kansas jumped out to an early one-run advantage on a home run in the first inning by Morgyn Wynne in the second game. Wynne’s home run was her seventh blast of the season and first since March 30 against Baylor.

Iowa State responded in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run of its own.

After a scoreless second, Wynne again pushed a run across the plate on a double to left center, which scored Sydnee Ramsey. The Cyclones netted their second run in the fourth on a single down the left field line and tied the game at 2-2.

For the second time in the series, the game was forced to extra innings and Iowa State earned the walk-off victory with a two-run home run. Lexy Mills earned the loss after pitching the final 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts.

Brynn Minor pitched another complete game against the Cyclones and again was on the wrong side of the decision in the first game of the day.

Minor allowed only three hits, and the one Iowa State run in the second inning. ISU tallied a one-out double in the second, and scored one batter later on a single down the left field line.
