After battling nine innings against Iowa State, the Kansas softball team suffered a 3-2 loss in walk-off fashion Friday night at the Cyclones Sports Complex.
Senior pitcher Brynn Minor tossed a season-best 8 1/3 innings, striking out one batter and walking one in the loss.
Kansas (15-33, 3-13 Big 12) jumped on the board first, plating its first run of the game in the second inning. Becki Monaghan started the inning with a walk and later scored on a Miranda Rodriguez infield single. Iowa State (29-22, 5-11) responded in the bottom of the third, netting one run on a double to left center.
KU again jumped ahead in the fifth on a Morgyn Wynne double to right center that scored Brittany Jackson, but the Cyclones tied the game in the bottom half.
After Kansas recorded the first out of the inning in the bottom of the ninth, Iowa State tallied the walk-off on a solo home run by Sami Williams.
The second game of the series is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
