Behind a 287 (-1) on the final day, No. 38 Kansas men’s golf climbed up two spots to take second place in a 12-team field at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate on Sunday in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The team’s second place finish gives the Jayhawks five top-three finishes in just seven tournaments in the 2018-19 season thus far. Mississippi State won the event with a 856 (-8) as a team, while KU scored a 862 (-2) to claim runner-up.
For the second tournament in a row, and the fourth time this season, sophomore Harry Hillier finished as the team’s top performer of the tournament. Hillier used a team low 67 (-5) round on Sunday to give him a 208 (-8) final score for the tournament. His 8-under final score earned him the number two spot overall in the 69-player field.
The Jayhawks’ second-best finisher for the tournament was senior Charlie Hillier, who finished just three strokes overall behind his brother to finish in a tie for third place.
