Six Jayhawks named to Big 12 All-Tournament Team

Six players from the Kansas women’s tennis team were named to the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team, which was announced Monday by the conference office.

Nina Khmelnitckaia, Janet Koch, Malkia Ngounoue, Anastasia Rychagova, Sonia Smagina and Maria Toran Ribes all received All-Tournament honors.

The Jayhawks swept the doubles awards. Khmelnitckaia and Koch, the No. 3 doubles tandem in the country, claimed the honor at first doubles after defeating TCU’s No. 35-ranked Ellie Douglas and Aleksa Cveticanin.

Rychagova and Smagina, ranked-No. 73 in the nation, garnered the No. 2 doubles award following 6-2 victories on both Saturday and Sunday over OSU’s Katarina Stresnakova and Marina Guinart and Texas’ Fernanda Labrana and Tijana Spasojevic, respectively. Toran Ribes and Ngounoue rounded out the All-Tournament doubles team at third doubles after notching a perfect 3-0 record.

Rychagova, Khmelnitckaia and Toran Ribes earned All-Tournament singles honors as well. At No. 1 singles, Rychagova, ranked No. 22 in the country, bested Oklahoma State’s No. 26-ranked Stresnakova. Khmelnitckaia and Toran Ribes went 3-0 during the tournament at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
