Brad Davis wins Ross Randall Shootout

Eudora — It’s been a good year for members of the 1999 Kansas men’s golf team that won the Big 12 title.

Chris Thompson qualified for the 2018-19 PGA Tour season by finishing strong to place 20th during the regular season of the Tour.

Ryan Vermeer won the PGA Professionals Championship, which earned him a $55,000 payday, a spot in the PGA Championship last August in St. Louis, and a spot in six PGA Tour events in 2018-19.

And on Sunday at Twin Oaks Golf Complex in Eudora, Newton native and St. Louis resident Brad Davis won the Ross Randall Shootout, defeating fellow former KU player and current KGA president Sean Thayer, of Garden City, 1 up.

The event, played at Wakarusa Pitch and Putt, the longer of two par-3 courses at Twin Oaks, capped a KU golf reunion weekend.

“It’s a really fun little facility,” Davis said. “You can tell that they’re trying to get the kids involved. I think a short-game course like this is very much appropriate. Coach Randall would push the short game because that’s where you score.”
