Langs named Big 12 Rookie of the Week

By Staff Report     Oct 15, 2018

Kansas volleyball freshman middle blocker Rachel Langs is the Big 12 Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Langs was instrumental on the defensive front for the Jayhawks over the week, averaging a league-best 2.14 blocks per set. She registered six blocks in an upset bid against then-No. 4 Texas and nine in a three-set sweep at Texas Tech.

In addition, Langs’ nine blocks against the Red Raiders helped the Jayhawks record a new match record for blocks as they finished the contest with 16.5. It was 2.5 blocks more than the previous mark (14.0) set Sept. 12, 2014 against Villanova.

“We have been really organized up front defensively,” head coach Ray Bechard said in a team release following Saturday’s match at Texas Tech. “The front row created a confidence in our defense. As the match went along, we stayed really organized behind the block too.”

Kansas (13-4, 6-0 Big 12) travels to Kansas State at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
