The director of the Williams Education Fund for Kansas Athletics since Aug. 2016, Matt Baty, is leaving the department, KU announced on Thursday.
“It has been an honor to represent Kansas Athletics,” Baty, once an All-Big 12 centerfielder for the KU baseball team, stated in a release. “I am proud of the progress the Williams Education Fund has made, and I thank the donors for making that possible. Considering the passion of those donors, I am excited at the prospect of even greater things happening for Kansas Athletics in the future.”
A 2006 graduate of KU, Baty served as a vice president in treasury management at Equity Bank in Wichita before joining Kansas Athletics as a senior associate athletics director. He also held a number of athletics and fundraising positions, and served as general manager of the Wichita Sports Forum.
“I have enjoyed working with Matt during my time at Kansas,” first-year KU Athletics Director Jeff Long stated in KU’s release. “Under his guidance the Williams Education Fund has made significant strides in an important era for Kansas Athletics. We wish Matt all the best as he takes on new challenges.”
The Williams Education Fund raises money for scholarships for student-athletes. Baty oversaw a staff of 14, which manage KU’s priority point system and select-a-seat process, as well as hospitality and the game day experience for members. The fund’s staff members also help identify and meet student-athlete needs in the way of aid and capital projects, while serving as stewards of the fund, according to the WEF website.
