The Kansas softball team made its first Big 12 victory of the season a convincing one Friday at Arrocha Ballpark.

The Jayhawks scored a 12-4, run-rule victory over Iowa State in six innings.

Seniors Harley Ridling and Erin McGinley each drove in four runs to lead the Jayhawks (26-14 overall, 1-15 in conference). Ridling hit two home runs and McGinley one.

“Obviously, it’s great to finally get a win in the Big 12,” KU coach Megan Smith said. “Offensively, we showed what we are capable of doing, and what we did during the first half of the season. It was good to see our seniors step up and do some big things.”

Iowa State took a two-run lead in the top of the first on a two-run homer from Sydney Stites. Kansas quickly tied the score on Ridling’s two-run homer.

For the third time this season, KU scored 12 runs and did not strike out once.
