Kansas senior defensive lineman Daniel Wise continues to rack up preseason recognition.
Wise was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watchlist, which was released by the Football Writers Association of America on Tuesday.
The award is given to the national defensive player of the year, as athletes can be added or removed from the list during the course of the season. The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce five finalists for the 2018 Bronko Nagurski Trophy on Nov. 14.
In addition to being considered for the Nagurski Trophy, Wise is on the watchlist for the Bednarik Award, and was tabbed preseason All-Big 12 First Team.
Last season, Wise finished with 16 tackles-for-loss, which was second in the conference and 11th in the FBS. Wise’s seven sacks ranked fourth in the Big 12 and tied for 44th in the FBS. Wise recorded 53 total tackles, one forced fumble, one pass breakup and five quarterback hurries.
