The University of Kansas women’s basketball team topped Northwestern, 66-57, in its second game of the Duel in the Desert Tournament to earn the Desert Division title Thursday night inside Cox Pavilion.
Jessica Washington was selected as the Desert Division MVP and senior Kylee Kopatich joined her on the All-Tournament Team. Washington and Kopatich each notched double-figure scoring in both matchups, with Washington leading Kansas in scoring in both contests.
Washington scored 22 points Thursday for her second 20-point game of the 2018-19 season. Kopatich was KU’s next highest scorer with 19 points, while adding seven rebounds. Senior forward Austin Richardson concluded Kansas’ double-digit scorers with 14 points and seven rebounds.
“(Washington) had a good tournament,” KU coach Brandon Schneider said in a team release. “I thought Kopatich had a really good tournament. Who really had a fantastic two games was Christalah Lyons. I thought she was a really heady, smart point guard there down the stretch and made winning plays.”
Kansas (9-1) plays host to Vermont on Dec. 30.
