The Big 12’s double-double leader, Dedric Lawson continues to shine in his first first season playing for the University of Kansas, with Monday’s news that he’s once again been named the conference’s newcomer of the week serving as the latest evidence.

Lawson’s season-high 28 points, as well as his 12 rebounds, in KU’s 74-71 Saturday victory against Villanova helped the redshirt junior forward pick up the weekly award for the second time this year.

What’s more, Lawson has a been Big 12 Player of the Week on two other occasions. Texas Tech’s Jarrett Culver won it this week.

Lawson leads the Big 12 this season with six double-doubles, helping him also top the league in scoring (20.1 points per game) and rebounding (10.8 per game). Lawson is currently one of just four players at the NCAA Division I level averaging 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds.

No. 1 Kansas (9-0) plays host to South Dakota (6-5) at Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday, at 7 p.m.
