Kansas fourth, senior Chase Hanna fifth heading into final round of Big 12 golf championship

Riding the hot hands of senior Chase Hanna and junior Daniel Sutton, the Kansas men’s golf team enters Wednesday’s fourth and final round of the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes in fourth place.

Hanna fired 69 and 70 in the second and third rounds Tuesday to move into fifth place, two strokes off the pace set by co-leaders Brad Dalke of Oklahoma and Scottie Scheffler of Texas.

Sutton shot 69-74 Tuesday and is in a three-way tie for 10th, five strokes off the lead.

As a team, the Jayhawks are 14 strokes off the lead shared by Oklahoma State and Texas and three strokes behind third-place Oklahoma.

“Today was a lot of ups and downs,” Hanna said. “Certainly a lot of good things and it looks like I have a chance tomorrow, which is great. It sounds like it is going to be pretty bad weather, which should help me make up some ground. You can’t ask for much more.”

Kansas coach Jamie Bermel explained why he thinks the course will play hard in the final round.

“I think even par is going to be a pretty good score tomorrow,” Bermel said. “It is going to be windy again with a little bit of rain tonight. If we mix in rain and wind, it is going to be difficult.”
