One of the Big 12’s top football coaches is out of a job.
According to multiple media reports on Thursday, Baylor dismissed head coach Art Briles.
The move away from Briles, who went 65-37 in eight seasons in Waco, Texas, comes amid scrutiny of Baylor University’s handling of reports of rape and assault by football players.
Baylor defensive end Sam Ukwuachu was convicted of sexual assault, and star defensive end Shawn Oakman is under investigation for similar allegations.
Briles took over a losing program in 2008 and by his third year the Bears were posting winning records and reaching bowl games every season. Each of the past three years, BU won at least 10 games.
Yahoo’s Pat Forde reports Baylor is expected to name Phil Bennett, Briles’ defensive coordinator, interim head coach.
