Kansas guard Frank Mason III (0) defends against a three from Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield (24) during the second half, Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 at Allen Fieldhouse.

Ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 each of the previous two weeks, Kansas University’s basketball team dropped just two spots, to No. 3 in the latest rankings, released Monday afternoon.

The Jayhawks’ 11-point loss at West Virginia — now ranked No. 6 in the nation — cost them the top spot, and allowed Big 12 foe Oklahoma to take over the No. 1 position in this week’s poll.

No. 2 North Carolina also is ranked ahed of Kansas this week.

KU (15-2 overall, 4-1 Big 12) opened the season at No. 4 in the AP Top 25 and has remained in the top five every week.

Kansas visits Oklahoma State (9-8, 1-4) on Tuesday and plays host to Texas (11-6, 3-2) on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse.

The No. 1 Sooners (15-1, 4-1) play at No. 19 Iowa State (13-4, 2-3) for this week’s edition of Big Monday, on ESPN (8 p.m. tip). Then, on Saturday, OU travels to No. 13 Baylor.

The Jayhawks, who beat the Sooners in a wild, 1-versus-2, triple-overtime affair two weeks ago, won’t play their rematch with Oklahoma until Saturday, Feb. 13, at Lloyd Noble Center, in Norman, Oklahoma.
