? Kansas University recruiting target Michael Porter, a 6-foot-9 junior forward from Tolton Catholic in Columbia, Missouri, who is ranked No. 3 in the recruiting Class of 2017 by Rivals.com, will be playing in the Lawrence area on Saturday.

Porter’s Tolton team will meet Blue Valley Northwest in the seventh and final game of the one-day Best of the Midwest showcase event. Tip is 8:30 p.m., at Johnson County Community College.

Free State High will meet Lee’s Summit (Missouri) North in a 2 p.m., contest at the Showcase, which is put on by KU graduate/former Journal-World part-time sportswriter Chad Rader.

Porter’s list of schools: KU, Kentucky, Duke, Missouri, UCLA, Stanford, Indiana, Virginia, Syracuse and Washington.

Porter’s two older sisters, Bri and Cierra, play basketball at Missouri, where his dad, Michael Porter, Sr., is assistant coach for the women’s team. Porter’s aunt, Robin Pingeton, is the Tigers’ head women’s hoop coach. His brother Jontay, a sophomore, has already committed to Washington, where Porter’s godfather, Lorenzo Romar, is head coach.

Despite the ties to MU, most analysts believer KU is definitely a top contender for Porter.

“It’s not really a factor,” Porter told the Journal-World last summer, referring to his MU ties. “I’m not pressured to go to Mizzou or not go to Kansas by my family, at least. But by people in town, of course I am. Living near Mizzou doesn’t really affect going to Kansas at all.”

Porter is expected to be a package deal with Trae Young, a 6-1 junior point guard from Norman (Oklahoma) North, who is ranked No. 26 by Rivals.com. Young has said he will attend the KU-Kentucky game on Jan. 30 in Allen as part of an unofficial visit.
