Tampa, Fla. ? Harli Ridling hit a seventh-inning grand slam to send Kansas University’s softball team past UNLV, 7-3, on Saturday to complete a doubleheader sweep.
The Jayhawks defeated UNLV, 4-2, in the first game.
Ridling drove in six runs with her home run and a double.
Monique Wesley earned the victory, allowing one run in 31/3 innings.
KU had taken a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Erin McGinley drove home a run with a double to center field. Then Ridling connected for a double to drive in two more runs.
In KU’s first-game victory over UNLV, freshman right-hander Ania Williams tossed her second straight complete game, allowing four hits in seven innings. Both UNLV runs came on home runs.
“Ania shows a lot of poise under pressure,” KU coach Megan Smith said. “That’s a mature freshman to give up a home run and bounce back to shut them down. The batter right after the home run you would’ve never known she had given up a home run. That says a lot about her maturity and fight.”
Senior shortstop Chaley Brickey and sophomore outfielder McGinley each had a pair of hits for KU, including a home run by Brickey, her fourth of the season.
