Miller, KU swims second at Big 12

? Chelsie Miller lowered her own school record in the 200-yard butterfly, and Kansas University’s swimming and diving team on Saturday racked up the most points it ever had scored in the Big 12 Championships.

KU placed second with a school-best 650.5 points. Texas won with 1,043, while Iowa State was third at 570.5, West Virginia fourth (530) and TCU fifth at 451.

“There’s not much that beats accomplishing your goals as a team,” KU coach Clark Campbell said. “We really have to attribute our seniors leading us through this. It’s been a year in the making. Last year it wasn’t like this, and we set a goal to get back where we belong and swam great. I’m really excited for what we accomplished and for the team, but our four seniors — Laura Bilsborrow, Bryce Hinde, Chelsie Miller and Haley Molden — have meant so much to us, and it was really cool to have their leadership lead us to this point.”

Miller finished the 200 fly in a KU-record 1:58.25. She was just out-touched for first by Texas’ Remedy Rule (1:59.20).

Kansas’ Libby Walker added a runner-up finish in the 1,650 free (16:32.71), Yulduz Kuchkarova was third in the 200 back (1:57.07), and KU’s 400 free relay team — Haley Bishop, Pia Pavlic, Breonna Barker and Molden — took third in 3:23:10.
