Kansas baseball falters late, 9-3

By Staff Reports     Feb 28, 2016

? Oregon State’s baseball team scored eight runs in the final two innings and rallied past Kansas University, 9-3, on Saturday.

KU led 2-1 after seven innings, but Oregon State scored five runs in the eighth and three in the ninth. Billy King’s three-run home run put Oregon State ahead.

“It was devastating what led up to it,” KU coach Ritch Price said. “You go to the bullpen after seven great innings from Ben Krauth. Then we give up the leadoff walk, throw the pickoff play away, and (Sam Gilbert) walks the next batter. Then he gets behind again and throws a fastball in a hitters count, and the kid didn’t miss it.”

The Jayhawks (2-3) will meet Oregon State again at 11 a.m. today.

Oregon St. 100 000 053 — 9 11 2

W — Bryce Fehmel (3-0). L — Sam Gilbert (0-1).

2B — Kyle Nobach, OSU; Matt McLaughlin, Michael Tinsley, KU. Logan Ice, OSU. HR — Billy King, OSU.
