Ames, Iowa ? Kansas University’s Daina Levy won the weight throw, and Sharon Lokedi won the 5,000 to pace the Jayhawk women at the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.
Levy threw 70 feet, 71/4 inches — the No. 2 throw in school history.
“It has been a long time coming,” Levy said. “I have been working so hard this year. I hate getting second place, and I knew this year was going to be tough because there are so many great competitors in this conference. I knew it would take a really good outing to get the top spot so I was happy I threw well today.”
Lokedi won the 5K in 16:05.54.
“It feels great to get this medal,” Lokedi said. “I think I executed the race well today. … It just feels great to come out on top. I’m so happy.”
