Kansas University opens practice for the World Games (July 3-14, South Korea) on Monday in advance of exhibitions against Canada on June 23 and 26 in Sprint Center. Self told the J-W the Jayhawks would likely practice five days a week but the NCAA allows unlimited practice time.
The addition of SMU’s Nic Moore (5-foot-9) to KU’s summer team gives the Jayhawks some interesting lineup possibilities.
“Nic is the best player in the American Conference,” KU coach Bill Self said. “He can play on the ball. He can play off the ball. I can see all three of those little guys (Frank Mason, 5-11, Devonté Graham 6-2) playing together at once. I see two of ’em playing together with Wayne (Selden, 6-5) out there. I think it’ll be a fun deal. What I will do and our players will understand this, I’m gonna play everybody. We’re not going to do the platoon like Kentucky did last year, but we’re gonna give everybody an opportunity to play and get better because some of our guys do desperately need some minutes. Hunter (Mickelson, 6-11) is a good player. I just didn’t give him a chance to play as much last year because of depth we had in certain situations.”
