Former Kansas University big man Joel Embiid re-broke the same bone in his foot that caused him to miss his rookie NBA season, according to a published report.
According to two sources of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Embiid broke the navicular bone in his right foot again, a report that would seem to contradict a June 13 statement by the Philadelphia 76ers that a “standard CT scan on Joel’s right foot revealed less healing that anticipated at this point.”
On July 11, the team announced Embiid — whom the 76ers tapped third overall in the first round of the 2014 draft — would have another surgery and would miss his second consecutive season.
According to the Inquirer, the Sixers are concerned the setback could be career-threatening.
