Fort Worth, Texas ? Future Kansas University basketball power forward Carlton Bragg will play in the 2015 McDonald’s All-America basketball game on April 1 at Chicago’s United Center.
Bragg, a 6-foot-9 senior from Villa Angela-St. Joseph High in Cleveland, who picked KU over Kentucky , on Wednesday was named a member of the 12-player West team, to be coached by Robert Smith of Chicago’s Simeon High.
“Blessed to be a McDonald’s All-American,” Bragg wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.
Several prospects who are considering KU will also be competing in the game.
Joining Bragg on the West squad are KU targets Brandon Ingram, 6-8, small forward, Kinston (North Carolina) High; Malik Newman, 6-3 guard, Callaway High School, Jackson, Mississippi; Ivan Rabb, 6-10 power forward, Bishop O’Dowd High School, Oakland, California and Stephen Zimmerman, 7-0 center, Bishop Gorman High, Las Vegas.
KU targets playing for the East: Jaylen Brown, 6-7 small forward, Wheeler High, Marietta, Georgia and Cheick Diallo, 6-9 power forward, Our Savior New American School, Centereach, New York. The East will be coached by Bruce Kelley, Bullis School, Potomac, Maryland.
Bragg becomes the 37th McDonald’s All-American in KU history, joining, among others, Kelly Oubre (2014), Cliff Alexander (2014), Wayne Selden Jr. (2013) and Perry Ellis (2012) from this year’s team. Coach Bill Self has corralled 17 McDonald’s All-Americans in 12 seasons at KU.
