Surprise, Ariz. ? Two big innings doomed Kansas University to a 15-5 baseball loss to Oregon State on Sunday at Surprise Stadium.
Oregon State (5-3) plated seven in the first and five in the fifth and collected 13 hits off six KU pitchers.
“We need to make some progress on the mound,” KU coach Ritch Price said. “It’s like I just told our club, we knew we lost our top four guys to the draft, and there were going to be some growing pains that took place. If we continue to work hard and take care of our responsibilities, we will be ready to go by the time conference play starts.”
KU did collect 11 hits. Joven Afenir went 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Michael Tinsley, Connor McKay and Matt McLaughin each had two hits.
Kansas (2-5) will play Thursday through Sunday at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida.
